Strindberg is stricken with hubris. He feels as if the whole world is out to get him. Every thunderstorm is a personal attack, every gust of wind a demon. Strindberg, if Inferno is as psychically real to him as he later claimed (it’s debatable), is truly mad. A genius, as well.

At times you really believe that everyone was out to get him and maybe they were(he made himself very impopular in his native Sweden with some of his books).
